SCC Super Z-8 Chain Clearance Specifications and Details

The SCC Super Z-8 tire chain requires a minimum of 8 mm of clearance on the inside sidewall of the tire. While other obstructions may be present, the critical clearance area on most vehicles is the inside sidewall of the tire. This is where the tire comes closest to suspension components like springs, shocks, and struts, as well as brake lines. If you are unsure if your vehicle has the 8 mm of clearance to accommodate this chain, be sure to check your vehicle's owner's manual for more information. If you are still unsure, chat or email with one of our winter traction experts today for help.

The reason it got low marks is that the tensioner is far too tight. It required 2 of us to get it on and that was in fairly decent weather. Had I been alone or in inclement weather, it would have been even more difficult to install. I specifically bought Vulcan because of a great past experience, so it is disappointing to have to give less then a stellar review. Please add at least half an inch to your tightener and consider trailing these on... read more...

I had to put these on up in Wyoming on I-80 during a trip to Utah towing a 20foot dual axle enclosed trailer. After I finished the trip I found that the highway was getting closed behind me. Even the trucks I met when installing and removing were impressed with how easy they went on and came off. I was impressed with the handling/traction as I towed my precious cargo of two Harley's through 40-mph cross winds, blowing snow and a good 2-3 inches o... read more...

Not the best for aggressive off-road tires, the the aggressive tread will not allow the cables to rotate on the tire, Chains would work much better. I am not able to use them due to the explanation above.

The chains were easy to install with the included tightener bar and did not rub or scrape the wheel wells.
